Juan Carlos Ceriani developed Futsal in Uruguay in 1930, adapting indoor soccer to be played in smaller spaces at YMCAs. But Futsal isn’t just indoor soccer with a smaller team. Instead, Ceriani innovated and pulled inspiration from basketball, waterpolo, and handball.
Less means more.
With five players on each side—less than half the number in traditional soccer—and a smaller field, Futsal players get significantly more touches on the ball and learn to cover the entire court in dynamic formations.
